5 Steps to Start Boxing at Any Age

1) Start training today.
Come to the gym now. You don’t need to be in good shape. You don’t need to already know boxing. Our coaches will work with you no matter where you’re starting.

2) Be honest with coaches.
Tell coaches your goal. We’ve been coaching a long time, so we’ve worked with people who want to just have fun, or want to have fun, or want to learn to spar, or want to have just one match, or want to compete as an amateur, or want to have a career as a professional, or want to go for a the Olympic Games. And it’s also okay if your goal changes…just be honest with us so we can best help you.

3) Get in the right mindset.
Boxing isn’t easy. Be ready to be challenged mentally and physically. Be ready to sometimes feel like you aren’t making progress very quickly. And also be ready to see the gains as you put in the work. Maintain a growth mindset — be positive and be open to learning new things in new ways.

4) Apply yourself.
Ask questions — our coaches are there to help you. Attend classes. Use our open gym hours to apply what you’re learning. Stay hydrated. Dial in your nutrition. And remember to have fun in the process of reaching your goal in the sport.

5) Grab some gear.
You can borrow gear at our gym, until time for you to have your own equipment. Based on your goal, coaches will advise you on the equipment you need. Some can be purchased at the gym, or coaches will tell you about online options. Boxing doesn’t require a lot of personal gear, but take safety seriously. Quality hand wraps and quality gloves will make a big difference. And if you spar, you’ll need a form-fitted mouthguard, headguard, groin protector (mandatory for men), and appropriate shoes.

At what age is it too late to become an amateur boxer? It’s never too late to pursue your dream.
