COVID-19 self-isolation and social distancing is challenging for a lot of people. Here are a few mindfulness tips to help boxers of all ages decrease stress, reduce anxiety, and build greater peace of mind while at home.
- Take 2-minute movement breaks throughout the day — walk outside, do some crunches, squats, jumping jacks, lunges, planks, or shadow-box — anything to move around a little and enjoy being physical
- Eat with intention — take the time to sit down, chew every bite, and enjoy your meal
- Breathe — in through the nose, filling lungs at the diaphragm for maximum oxygen stores
- Get quality sleep —
- Avoid caffeine and big meals close to bedtime
- Turn off screens before bed
- Use a weighted blanket to calm the nervous system
- Align sleep time with circadian rhythms
