It’s true that your mindset can take you to a higher level in boxing, just like in every aspect of your life.
You don’t need to be a psychologist to focus on mindset. In fact, making a few changes on your own can unlock the benefits of how proper mindset can make all the difference in training, competition, and enjoying the process of improvement.
1) Positive Attitude — Being positive in practice and competition keeps you open to new ideas/combos/tactics, allows your brain to absorb more information, and propels you through adversity. Confidence also emerges from a positive mental mindset.
2) Train to Win — Don’t fight to survive. Fight to win. This shift in mindset is difference between doing and winning convincingly. Commit to give your all, whether that’s a training session or a competitive match.
3) Improve competence — Put the work in. Building skill is the secret to feeling more competent. Feeling more competent leads to greater effort in training, which then leads to more competence in skill.
3) Trust your Training — If you have a supportive team in place, with coaches that are positive and realistic, and you’ve been putting in the work, you can go into any situation — a tough training session, a spar, or competition, knowing that you are well-prepared.
